R2-D2 Is A Woman In STEM
Anyways, if you Google Artoo's gender, it says "masculine programming". This is from Daniel Wallace, the author of multiple Star Wars fanfiction. Since Star Wars is a kids' movie, writing history books for adults over it is kind of cringy, plus he's a man so I don't think that's a valid opinion.
She doesn't have a biological sex, being a robot and thus unable to reproduce, but gender-wise, she is female.
My main argument here is the scene in A New Hope, where everyone gets stuck in the trash compactor. Everyone is panicking, but Artoo hacks into the computer and saves everyone without losing her head. Could a man do that? Could a man do that without the expectation of praise? Definitely not. She continually saves the day quietly and unrewarded.

Furthermore, R2-D2 is much funnier than any man I've ever met. If she were male, she would be the Olaf of Star Wars.
Finally, we must use the Team Rocket principle, which states that the strongest friendships are those between a gay man and a lesbian.
Their aura is so powerful |
Because C-3PO is gay, we must deduce that Artoo is a lesbian. This article corroborates my argument.
Although relying on stereotypes and generalizations is not really the way for good female or queer representation, it's sometimes all we have. There are so few role models given to us in media, so we have to create our own. Interpreting R2-D2 as a lesbian makes it a story about a hero like me. Although there are movies with explicit "girl power" or "gay rights" themes, sometimes, you just want to see someone with your identities in a way that doesn't revolve around those identities. In the end, Star Wars is not the property of men.
I am thrilled, inestimable, delighted, and in complete agreement with your expert use of scientific principles such as the Team Rocket principle and girlbossery in this well-rounded argument. Jolly Good.
